Is "LIKE this post" really needed at the bottom of each post? Do many find it useful or could the "LIKE" system be cut out to simplify these rather "busy" pages?

Members asked for it.
A lot. :)
For a long time. :)

And since the likes are logged and viewable, one can see who and how many.
Many people don't take time to post a comment, but are happy to click "like"

And well, it's just a sign of the time.

I like the like button because it is an efficient way to express approval or appreciation for a post. I find it a better method than say posts that just say "+1". It also helps keeps the RTAT view cleaner.

I like the "like" feature for the reasons above. :-)

Think about this...

OK, let us assume that 1000 read a post, and 100 of the readers Like it...but at the same time 700 of them have 'no opinion' and 200 are in staunch DISagreement with the statements made...

...what does the 100 Likes really prove?!...a vocal minority agree with the post

I don't think we are trying to prove anything.

Why is this even a question? People use LIKE on every other form of social media. don't "like" it, don't click it. It doesn't make the page any busier. It's so tiny I didn't even notice it at first. I think the "LIKE" needs to be turned into a more noticeable button and show how many likes a post has.

Also, as many negative replies as I've seen, it may just be easier to have a "dislike" button as well.

I wanted to "like" your post. But, just couldn't.

to be completely honest, the "like" and "Post #" should be on one line opposite the MQ | Quote | Reply buttons. That would save a lot of real estate by the time you get to the end of a page.

Can we add a option to hide it? (It may already exist)

I use the Like button to help encourage and create the type of forum I want to read.

If someone takes the time to type out a thought provoking post, or shares actionable information in a detailed way, I will Like their post as a way of thanking that member for her or his contribution. That small simple act of thanks can go a long way to pay someone back for the time they took to post, because the Like is an indication that someone else out there noticed and appreciated their effort.

And I'd like to believe that this expression of appreciation encourages more quality posts, pictures, and thought provoking ideas to be shared in the future, thus creating the type of forum I want to read.
