New poster but long time reader.

This was my first ever sighting of a Broad bodied chaser dragonfly and one of my favourite dragonfly shots.

The question mark in the title is because I took this at the telephoto end of my 100-400mm and wondered what constitutes macro technically?

Lets not get into the semantics of what technically constitutes macro. Far more important are the compositional and aesthetic considerations. On this level your capture is very well composed and shows excellent detail, particularly with the wing venation. I also like the powdery blue colour on the abdomen as this can be easily blown out. Your capture certainly brings out the beauty of this lovely specimen.

Thanks.

My question was not intended to fan any flames; I truly have no idea what differencesna macro has over a closeup.

Traditionally macro has meant projecting an image on to the film at a 1:1 magnification. Since insects are a common subject and many insect shots are at less than 1:1, photography forums that cover macro shots often end up grouping macro and close up photographs.

A fabulous shot. Colours and sharpness are superb.

Practically everyone posts their dragonfly and damselfly pics in here so I would forget about the technicalities of whether it's actually macro or not :-)
