Years ago, I helped a friend out who also had specialist print shop. His camera backs were in a separate room from the lens & art work. There was no 'film back' as we think of them & the film was held against the back by vacuum. Wish I'd taken a pic of the set-ups.

Sounds the same, except I'm not sure about the camera back. The bellows, rack and lens board were in the front, along with several floodlamps. The inside of the camera was the darkroom. As I recall the rig was about six feet tall and extended horizontally into the room up to around 8 or 10 feet.
