Are you saying that the MicroATX board is, for lack of a better term, too small for this particular build?

As far as next generation processors, can processors be swapped out?
In my case, I could swap out the i5 processor for an i7 after the computer has been built?
Sorry if that's a stupid question but, i'm not sure how that kind of thing works.

I do want to future proof this computer somewhat so that 5 years down the road i'm not spending a lot of money on it to keep it current.
I think I will go the 16 GB ram route instead of the 8 and if a different mother board makes more sense, I'll check that out to.

No, a MicroATX will work just fine in the case and with your build depending on what you want to do in the future. MicroATX boards generally have 2 RAM slots and 1 full size PCIe slot, a normal size board will generally have 4 RAM slots and 2 - 3 full size PCIe slots, therefore having a better upgrade path.

Yes, processors can be swapped.

Current generation Haswell i5's and i7's will work in Z87/H87 and Z97/H97 Socket 1150 motherboards. Next generation Broadwell i5's and i7's will be compatible with Z97/H97 but will not work in Z87/H87. Broadwell processors are expected in the 2nd quarter of 2015. There will not be an upgrade path beyond Broadwell for Socket 1150. The generation beyond Broadwell is named Skylake, it will use Socket 1151 and will require all new motherboards.

In five years time there will be at least two new generations of motherboards and three to four generations of processors, there will be no viable upgrade to anything current beyond used parts.
