SD card brands

I have a Transcend 8GB class six card for my T2i. It writes video fast enough without a problem. I bought a Sony 16GB class ten for the faster speed and a little extra storage space. It will not write fast enough to record video. I thought Sony would be a quality product but now realize it is not. I bought it off of Ebay so is it possible I got a knock-off? What brand and where am I safe buying a new sd card?

1st of all make sure the card is low level formatted in camera and then retest.

Transend is a good card so it might be your source that is the issue. Don't know where you live so difficult to answer the question. Should you live in the States the sales at Best Buy are good as is the product. They carry Sandisk. If you must deal on line, seek reputable places with high turnover. B&H, Adorama, etc. Stick with Sandisk, Lexar or Transend but watch the source. Big places like Best Buy move so much product they deal direct with the importer. No middleman working from a garage is involved as may be the case with eBay.

If the Transcend 6x works, and the Sony 10x card does NOT, then yes, it is very possible you have a bogus card.

I buy SanDisk and Kingston, and ONLY from a reputable dealer, like B&H.

Agree completely. I once purchased some Sandisk off of eBay. Huge mistake.

Tell your wife that statement is wrong.

Look on Amazon for deals but go through Amazon directly. Not sure what size the t2i will hold but I got a Sony class 10 64 gb for around $30 about a year ago. Also check newegg. They are a very good computer site

I've bought Sony, Lexar, Transcend and SanDisk from B&H and never had a problem. BTW being a cheapskate I always which ones have free shipping, which is many.

I tend to like Lexar (Pro)- but and obvious additional name is SanDisk.
Transcend is a big name too.

A hint on Lexar cards: The bottleneck is always the camera, so a last generation card may be a better value for money with no downsides. E.g. a 400x card rather than a 600x card.

I would go with Kingston branded cards. We have had great luck with them.

I think brands don't really matter as much as most would think. Every brand has defective memory cards, and the defective rate is tough to measure accurately. Any established brand in memory should suffice. With that said, I do generally use SanDisk, but have had Lexars, Patriots, etc... before with no issues

I've always used SanDisk and have never had a problem. I only buy from brick & mortar stores, Amazon or Newegg.

Hard to say. Was it a reputable seller with lots of positive feedback? Even if so, how many buyers put their cards through rigorous testing before leaving appropriate feedback?

SD cards are getting pretty cheap...even 64GB/128GB SDXC cards are excellent prices when on sale.

I've used Transcend and Lexar SD cards without issue. Right now, I am using Komputerbay 64GB cards for my GH4 and 4k video. I took a bit of a risk with the low price and mixed reviews but so far they are working fine. I always buy my SD cards on Amazon.

Never buy SD cards on eBay.

New Samsung Pro SD cards are great!
I want to switch to them. Only got two when they came out and were on sale for $30 (64gb).
Regret not getting more as I haven't seen a sale since then (reg $45?).

I was running Sandisk for a while then switched to Sony for a bit.
Sony yellow cards are reading at 25mb/s for me (64gb for $25 on sale, reg also closer to $35).
New Samsung Pro ones are reading at 45mb/s.

Halving the time is no joke when you dump a full 64gb card.
Samsung cards get two thumbs up from me!
