I know other photography forums do this each year and I know one has been done here in the past (I used the search feature but couldn't find a similar topic posted in years past).

I also know it's very difficult to pick just one image so I thought maybe 5 images would be a more suitable to post what you think is your best and/or favorite from this year.

I'll start of with my favorites from this year...and it started out early in January with the Snowy Owl invasion we had on the east coast this past winter. On January 12th I was fortunate to find and photograph 3 different Snowy Owls on a beach in Virginia. This Owl was skittish but it was comfortable enough to take a bath in front of me.

IMAGE: http://www.3rdicreations.com/img/s6/v135/p1029167829-4.jpg

This Owl entertained a lot of people on January 12th as well and it stayed in the main parking area of the beach. People came and went but I spent nearly 5 hours with it until it literally flew off into the sunset to go hunting for the night. It was also the last Snowy Owl I photographed during their visit last winter.

IMAGE: http://www.3rdicreations.com/img/s10/v111/p781570790-5.jpg

After the demise of the eagles nest I followed close to 4 years when the female was struck and killed at a near-by airport then the USDA-WS got involved after a permit was issued to rid the area of nesting Bald Eagles I started photographing a different nest closer to my home. Unfortunately this nest tree will eventually be removed because of it's location to a high traffic area and the property is going to be developed soon.

IMAGE: http://www.3rdicreations.com/img/s2/v70/p759340096-5.jpg

A fellow photographer told me about a cooperative Red-tailed Hawk he found earlier this year and I've spent many hours observing and photographing it.

IMAGE: http://www.3rdicreations.com/img/s10/v98/p810197308-4.jpg

Although totally wild she was so comfortable with 4 people standing near her she decided to take a bath in front of us. She went in and out of the water 3 times that morning....what a treat to watch and photograph.

IMAGE: http://www.3rdicreations.com/img/s6/v147/p885801940-4.jpg

I look forward to seeing what others captured during 2014 and wish everyone luck for 2015.

Great shots, particularly the Snowy Owl & the Bald Eagle. Neither of which we see here in Aus. Our closest equivelent to the Bald Eagle would be our Wedge Tailed Eagle. I'm still hunting for a pic of one of them. I'm off to look thru my bird shots, I shall return! :-)

All these were taken in Western Australia, the first, a Rainbow Bee Eater. They are tunnel nesters & only come to the south of the state for a few months each year.

The second, a Splendid Fairy Wren, so fast, I have no chance of an in flight shot. They are even quick on the ground. The blue is almost iridescent.

Number 3 an Osprey, a fish eating coastal dweller. I like the light on this one.

Number 4 a Spotted Harrier, a medium sized bird, often found in open farm land. One of my few successful BIF's

Number 5? Maybe not my best, but certainly a favourite! Nankeen Night Heron. Again a fish eater, but they are quite brazen & will plague local fishermen.

Excellent shots so far everyone. I'm looking forward to following this thread. Five of my favourites for the year. I guess I have thing for owls.

My bird shots consist mainly on hummers, and I take so many, it's hard to pick favorites. But I think for a perched shot, I love this male Costa's:

On the wing, here's a pregnant Anna's that came out fairly well:

Not nearly as spectacular as the others here, but these are my favorites from the year.

Here are two of my favorites, a solitary vireo and winter wren. I like them because of their relative rarity and for the image quality.
