Well Jeff, even if there was a 600 f4L IS ll in the works I know I'd be out of the running but it would sure make it interesting for many others.
My question for you Jeff is, do you know how fortunate you are to be able to hear the Loons call and get to shoot them? I say lucky you until your snow gets 2 feet deep. That is an adorable shot of the Loon family and remember when you were shooting and posting these last spring. The Blue Jay is exceptional too, good pose and excellent capture on the colors.

All these shots are awesome! I'm just discovering bird photography (first step was to get a bird feeder for my backyard a month ago). Long way to GO but damn it, I'll get there someday!

Steve..such an excellent set from you..but, that Royal Tern shot made me laugh out loud! It looks like some sort of choreographed dance move! What a fantastic capture!!

I look forward to seeing what 2015 brings into focus for you ;-)a

Thanks so much Joayne. That was a fun morning in the Florida sand. The mating offerings were coming fast and furious with a lot of fighting for position. The bird that brought the headless minnow lost out, what was he thinking. :) I hope you have a Happy New Year!

Very nice! Wish I had some to photograph, but I live in open farmland. Occasionally I'll get one in the winter that wonders in.

Hi Everyone.

My favourite is this shot of a red breasted loon (or diver as we say in the UK), taken in Iceland last year.

My contribution :-)

This first one because it was such a rare find locally & caused much excitement when I reported I'd found it:

IMAGE LINK: https://flic.kr/p/oLAkgw (external link) Lesser Spotted Woodpecker (external link) by Richard Greenwood (external link), on Flickr

This one because I've waited ages to get a shot like this:

IMAGE LINK: https://flic.kr/p/pJyqrb (external link) Kingfisher (male) (external link) by Richard Greenwood (external link), on Flickr

This one because it caused such a huge amount of traffic on Flickr:

IMAGE LINK: https://flic.kr/p/q5pndv (external link) Barn Owl (external link) by Richard Greenwood (external link), on Flickr

And lastly, not the greatest, but I found out towards the end of the month that it has been chosen to be published in a new field guide to British Birds due out mid-2015:

Dang!

How do y'all do this? I looked at mine to see if I had some that I liked, I didn't see ANY from ANY year. heheh There is some REALLY quality shots here, also some really good poses too, you guys really deserve some kudos to consistently shoot this well.
I'm always impressed with what I see here in this forum, but these are cream of the crop shots here!

Canons to the left, Canons to the right,
We hold our L glass toward the light,
Digitizing in a snap reflective glory
That will forever tell our imaged story.
