Talk to me a bit people...

I was ready to buy a used D7100, then started seeing the D700 for maybe $100 more and got interested. Now I'm questioning buying a 7 year old camera rather than spending another $100 or so and getting a D600. I realize the D700 was/is a pro level camera, and still offers some upside over the D600, but for general use (portraits, casual, a bit of action) what makes sense here?

Any thoughts would be great. Thanks!

I loved my D700 but about the only thing the D600/610 doesn't do better is fps and maybe AF array. Better sensor (IQ, mp, ISO[low and high], DR), lighter and a little smaller, video, and a number of things that I should be able to remember.

The D600/610 has a similar ergo layout to the D7100 from memory and uses SD cards so if you were going to be happy with the D7100, it'll be fine for you in that regard too. For action the D600/610 may not be quite as good as a D7100 and I think not as good as a D700 with grip and EN-EL4/a (which allows the D700 to shoot up to 8fps) but plenty have used it for such with great results.

If you are serious about the D600, see if you can get the D610 for a bit of peace of mind around the oil splatter issue which was the main reason the D610 exists in the first place. The D600 is still a very capable body but if oil spots on the sensor are going to annoy you, you'll be getting sensor cleans done a LOT more than most other bodies

I bought mine for 600cad, after selling all my Pentax gear, with 47000 actuations and it looks brand new. Also bought an old AFD 28-105.
It has already paid for a Sigma 70-200 :-D
