Has anyone shot the new 7DII with a teleconverter and the 100-400? I was wondering how the auto focus and image quality were with like the 1.4 converter.

CapnJack Cream of the Crop More info | Dec 21, 2014 15:24 | #2 I'm still playing with a Sigma 50-500 with 1.4x teleconvertor. With this lens, the regular autofocus would work, but it did autofocus in live view on a rather dreary day. I was surprised at that, I haven't downloaded images as yet to share, mostly because they were just of the neighbors siding and aren't very interesting, even as test shots, and the weather has been lousy to go out. I'm still learning the camera too.

Just got the 7DII, love it so far. The new 100-400 will have to wait for a while.

Seems OK - AF hunts a bit more but seems accurate. My experience with the 1.4X is just beginning. Image hosted by forum (704232) © Archibald [SHARE LINK] THIS IS A LOW QUALITY PREVIEW. That shot looks great, now would the old 100-400 look close to that good with the 7DII and 1.4III?

Dec 21, 2014 21:27 | #9 I'm curious how your 2-3-2 rig will work with BIF. Could the AF keep up with moving subjects? When you see my camera gear you'll think I'm a pro.

Could the AF keep up with moving subjects? I was in that situation yesterday when an eagle flew over and I had the III on. With that kind of focal length, it was hard to find the bird quickly. It was bad. I'm posting the pic that perhaps came out best, but it is not good. Might be better next time. Image hosted by forum (704233) © Archibald [SHARE LINK] THIS IS A LOW QUALITY PREVIEW. I can't tell you about AF speed but if you scroll down to the 100-400 comparisons and you have a good copy of the V1 you should get decent IQ but don't hold me to that. I know. A tough decision because Canon does not give that 1.4 III away. You can get a 55-250 STM for that price Image Editing OK
