I've been working on some editing techniques. Smoothing skin, evening skin tone, etc. Looking for some outside opinions. Does this look too processed? Any thoughts/advice on this shot would be most helpful.

In the lower left corner, there's a brighter area that looks like a second body —as if the shot had been taken through a window and you were reflected in the glass. It's... disturbing.

The look doesn't look overly processed to me —heh, not even processed at all. It looks quite natural: good; but the flare isn't helping you here. The subject dead in the centre doesn't help much either (though in some cases breaking the guideline of not slapping the subject dead in the centre does work to good effect).

Maybe it's just me, but the catch light in the pupil is a bit distracting. Have you tried to take it out in Photoshop?

I like the back light concept, but the flare on her face and forehead bothers me... it doesn't let the model's beauty show through. Without all that flare, and the brighter area in the lower left corner, it would be a very nice shot.

There is something wrong here.....maybe it's the angle of the shot, maybe it's the way her hair is swept all to the one side. Point being is that her face and head look misshapen. Her left cheek looks almost non existent compared to the right which in turn makes her head look a bit large toward the top.

Not real crazy about the sun flare either but ten I'm just not a fan of that technique.

Here is another from this shoot. Thoughts on this one?

The flare is gone, but her head still looks somewhat distorted. Now, she's got a long face to begin with, thus, the 3/4 view doesn't suit her very well. Are you shooting from a higher angle? For bust-length shots I'd align the camera so that the lens is centred with her nose, whilst for close ups I'd align the lens with her eyes.

The rim light is better, but the pose is not flattering. You want to watch the eyes, they shouldn't be turned so far that you cant see white on both sides. Have her turn her head indtead of judt her eyes. You are still too low and it accentustes her long face too much. She is pretty but is probably better served by more straight-on angles.

2nd is an improvement but it still looks over-posed, over-processed, and over-lighted (to the point of being shadowless flat) for my taste. Rim lighting looks simply beautiful on the 2nd though! She's got some stunning hair!

The first looks real, the second looks over cooked.

What about this one? Other than I should have kept her arms in the shot.

The head on angle is better for her facial shape; however the background didn't help you there. Those branches are way too in focus and thus, distracting.

Also, your light is too low: you don't want ghoulish lighting. Go for open loop: place your light @ 45° above her head and 45° towards the side of her.

Plus you never want to crop elbows out if the forearms come bavk in the frame.

Here again, because of the shadow on the left side of her face it looks flat compared to the curve of her right. Plus it makes her jaw look misaligned.

I think she's prettier than what I see here. Heck, don't feel bad....I've got hundreds of pictures that.....aren't great shall we say, because of poor choices in lighting and angle.

We probably all do.

She did have an oddly shaped jaw. I knew that was going to be a trick to hide going in. Thank you all for your critiques. I really appreciate all the advice. I'll post more as I edit.
