I don't know how famous she is furth of the UK, but the wonderful Jane Bown died yesterday, aged 89.
Much of her most famous work was for The Observer. I bumped into her a couple times in my working life ~ an apparently mild-mannered diminutive little wifey, who also had a core of steel.
She worked almost exclusively in B&W film with a old Olympus OM-1 and 85mm, shooting invariably at 1/60 and ƒ2.8, and rarely took more than 10 minutes for her assigned shoots.
