I am trying to decide on some lenses. Currently I have a E-M10 (which I love) and some cheap zooms since I didn't want to jump all in until I decided I like the m4/3. Now that I realize I liek the format I am thinking it is new lens time (well I have been thinking about an A7 since they are kinda cheap now but that is another topic ;) )

I can't decide to go the prime route and get a m4/3 trinity, 17, 25, 45 or just get the 12-40 Pro. I have a bunch of Canon gear but I don't any primes for any of my kit so I am thinking of going that route with the m4/3 to get great IQ and keep things small. Also i could always get the 12-40 later paired with a E-M1 as a replacement for some of the DSLR stuff.

So many choices, primes or real good zoom?????........maybe the A7 would be cool. LOL

Check out the lens sample thread on this m 4/3 site. I like the the looks of the 45mm 1.8, but I haven't bought one yet.

This is where you either go with m 4/3 or keep the kit to a minimum. All depends if your serious about the Sony Alpha series.

Regardless of f/2.8 pro M 4/3 zoom.....Its still a slower lens than primes. To maintain the best IQ you must keep the iso's aprox 3200 or lower.

Even with a 25 f/1.4 prime I find that pushing an M 4/3 can get great photos with good light but as light diminishes the IQ drops substantially.

If your a prime shooter I'd go for the sony A7. Not sure how critical you are when it comes to image quality so that's your choice in deciding what platform to buy into. In due time sony will produce more faster zoom native lenses.

I have a gh3 and em-5 and they work acceptably well for casual application. I will be considering an Sony A7R or A7S for small form factor system when out and about with my family. This is where the high iso of the sony works in my favor. With the M43 I struggle with the performance in low light. At this point in time I will have to wait for more substantial improvements over the current "best" Em-1.

My 8yr old wants my em-5 and my 5yr old want the gh3. More reason for me to get a sony for me :)

12 f/2, 25 f/1.4 and 45 f/1.8 would be a great kit for the M 4/3. I'm still not tempted to buy an inexpensive 45mm due to possible near future sony purchase. For my ultra casual needs my 14 f/2.5, 25mm f/1.4 and 14-140mm zoom is good enough for my needs. Since I'm in no hurry I'll see how the M43 platform improves in iso performance.

I decided to get some primes for the m4/3's. Picked up a 25mm a week or so ago and and got my 45mm today. I haven't really had a chance to shoot with them since the weather here has been crappy but I can say so far they look pretty good.

Couldn't bring myself to go the A7 route just yet. It is compelling but I just can't get over the lack of great glass for the system. I always hear how great the camera is.......when using adapted glass. Maybe next year I will give it a twirl.

I have a GH4 and 12-35mm f2.8. I've heard countless great things about this lens but for some reason, I don't feel particularly captivated with the feel or the images I take. I am highly considering selling it and getting $800 worth of primes, including the 45mm f1.8, 25mm f1.8, and Panasonic 14mm f2.5. Hopefully this trinity of my own will make shooting fun :)

The draw to the 12-35mm is convenience and great for vid work. f/2.8 with the M43 sensor still doesn't provide a whole lot of dof.

Try foot zooming alot while changing the focal length of the zoom. My gut feel is your zooming to achieve the fov and your not concentrating on varying your perspective. The "feel" of your imagery has alot to do with your perspective.

Depends on the subject you shoot. I'm not really sure 17 and 25 both are necessary, nor even the 45 if you don't need the length. All three are beautiful lenses, and I've used all three.

I own the EM10 as well and have the 12 and 25, love both. 12-40 would be nice, but too pricey for me right now.
