I've been trying to get a few portraits and learn how to use flash as well. Looking for suggestions / critiques with this. Rather difficult to shoot my cranky boys heh.

2. - Here I know I used a too wide aperture as my wife isn't totally in focus. (How is the lighting otherwise?)

I like them.Think you did well. But this is from a rookie. Just did my first off camera flash with the grand kids myself :)

The lighting looks great for your first time. Were some of these taken with your 85mm? The reason I ask is that in some of the pics, since the people aren't on the same plane, the person either in front or behind look slightly out of focus. (i.e. - #2 and #4)

Thank you everyone.

These were all taken with my 70-200 II. And those pictures, I needed to stop down some more. I know better for next time. I was trying to get as much bokeh as I can with the background.

I understand shooting wide open... just have them pose on the same plane with each other to avoid OOF faces

I had one at f/3.5 and the other at f4.5. Next year, we will see what happens. It was really hard to even get these photos.. the outtakes are amazing.
