This was my first paid engagement session. I'd just gotten the 35 f2 IS in the mail and was happy to have it for this first shot. The second was taken with my 85 1.8. I'm using a 6D. Between the overcast sky and snow on the park ground, I really had just about perfect lighting anywhere I went. I packed a flash and reflector, but they stayed in the car. These two were really nervous about having their picture taken, but as the shoot went on, they relaxed and their natural chemistry really came through in the shots. These are just a couple of early stand-outs I wanted to share and look for any feedback on. Thanks for looking!

Don't ask why I shot at 1/40 of a second here. I probably needed to adjust my minimum shutter speed setting. On that note, does anyone know why my camera would've prioritized ISO 800 over lowering the shutter speed from 1/2000 in my first shot? I was shooting in AV mode, but I'm thinking that perhaps this was a bad idea with all the snow on the ground confusing the meter. I'm kind of surprised by the exif data. I didn't miss many shots for shutter speed reasons, but I did miss focus a handful of times with the 85mm.

it's not Av mode, your choice of metering also determines exposure (eval, matrix, center, etc.)

I used evaluative metering. Would spot have been better to handle the bright background caused by the snow? I'm still confused about that first shot, because there wasn't much in the scene to confuse the meter. I didn't do any cropping, so there wasn't a harsh white background and the scene was pretty evenly lit as they were staring up at the sky.

Check your camera manual, in AV mode aperture held constant at your setting, the shutter speed is selected by the camera, and the ISO is set by you. That is unless you used an auto ISO setting also.
