So I'm answering a pm from a buddy here. He had the gall, the temerity, the chutzpah to ask me a technical question. Can you believe that? So in my reply I told him I'm an idiot and couldn't answer his question if I wanted to. And as soon as I typed the word idiot, a big preview notice popped up warning me personal attacks are not permitted. Really? I mean, really? Is that effective? Will that make people who want to hurl insults think twice before doing so?

Can we say big brother? Geez.

It is just a word checker, I doubt it is a grammar checker to see if you are calling yourself an idiot, or if you are calling others idiots. The latter is what is being protected against, i believe. Plus it will let you use the word, it is just a warning. Other words will actually substitute out asterisks like the word ****. So some words are set up as warnings, and others are set up to not allow posting at all. Not really a big deal at all, is it? You can still use the word idiot if you would like.

And so does AMASS. You can test this by typing the most vulgar words you know and checking Preview. The warning about "idiot" is just a reminder not to call names.

Mark, it's the self depricating filter. It's there to protect you from yourself :p

Mark, as you are the most likely beneficiary of the anti-idiot filter, your reaction is quite surprising. :p

Well, you can always type id10t.

By the way, this forum is not read by my mum: you chased her away when the ability for non-members to view posted images was taken away. Both my grandmas are dead, and neither of them ever learnt to read anyway (or to speak English for that matter), so they're not reading these posts either.

You couldn't see hosted images in the old board either if you weren't a member... It seems so many have quickly forgotten what used to be, and it was only 3 weeks ago.

You need to be regulated. Good job Pekka! The least that could have been done since you weren't deleted from this forum

Weird, she could see them. Guess we'll try again with some posts containing images redirected from Flickr, but I am positive she could see all images. -?

The notice information is just for you. Mods do not get any alerts if you post a PM with curses and self-insults. It is up to you to ignore the notification messages, but when you post to public be prepared to have the post deleted, just like in the old POTN. That is why they are there. PM's are also under "no personal attack" rules, but at the moment I do not have AI code to distinguish whether the "bad" words are about you or the recipient.

Happy holidays!

Lol, probably not. There was a recent thread with a number of people using the acronym for 'read the ******* manual'. RT eff M. There's a warning that pops up when using that acronym.

Not a single one of them saw or cared about the warning about being nice to noobs and using certain types of language.

So those who are set on using specific words and phrases either aren't proofreading or checking the preview & save draft feature below every post box, or are typing and hitting submit faster than it can auto draft, or simply don't care and are going to type and post it anyway.
