I try to find out if 7d mk2 focusing point lid up in red when focus is locked. Can someone please confirm this. I hope it doesn't have the same issue like 5d mk3 where it just display black square instead of red. If it does and in which focusing mode? Thx

It normally shows only in black, but lights up in red under dim conditions. This can be changed in the settings.

Which is similar to how the 5D Mark III and 7D works, for example.

The 5D Mark III and 1DX aren't identical here, to put just one example on the table.

Do you mean those square light up in red or vf? I have used mk3 a few time, it only light up the whole vf (gird lines) momentary but those little squares never lit up. On my 60d they lit up and stay on when focus is lock, this way I see exactly which point is in focus.

So far in my limited experience the active focus points show up as black squares and are not highlighted in red. The inactive points are not visible.

Set it for One Shot and then try focusing under very dim conditions.

From Canon's Chuck Westfall - AF Point Illumination in the Viewfinder, The EOS 7D Mark II and EOS-1D X are essentially equivalent in this comparison, but the EOS 5D Mark III does not illuminate the active AF point during AI Servo AF.

Thank you very much, great resource for 7Dii. It works as advertised.

About that link. Look at the last image. You will notice "Q" AF point during AI Servo AF. If you press the Q button you can select illuminted. The AF points that you or the system selects (zone) will illuminate when shooting in AI Servo.

If you previously set the VF dislpay to AUTO then this will only work in low light. If you shoot during the day and you want see the AF points in use illuminate, especially if you have the AF display points set to all 65, the red flashing AF points can help you see which points are active. Set the the VF display illumination ON instead of AUTO. Keep in mind this will probably drain the battery a little faster.

Also if you want to see which AF point/s activated while viewing the images on the LCD go to the blue menus >, the 3rd tab. Second menu down. AF point disp.
