Turkey Creek Trail, East TX (What to do with boring landscape?)

The Houston area outdoors is a challenge for me to photograph because it doesn't have the natural majesty of mountains, waterfalls and lakes. Instead, we have a lot of flat, straight trails. This trail - Turkey Creek - out on the East Texas side is pretty much the same, and a rather boring trail to hike. So I went for some bleak PP of the pine trees using Color Efex. Interested in C&C on the first two. Hope you enjoy 'em.

1) 105 mm-ISO 1600-1-125 sec at f - 10

I dig the second one. I can imagine it printed large. There is just enough there to know what is, but "artsy" enough to be visually engaging. I'm thinking it would look pretty cool printed on metal.

I agree with the others, you nailed it with the mushroom shot. Lovely colors, contrast, comp.
