My wife gave me a Kirk L bracket for my 5D3 for Christmas. I have a Vanguard tripod with a Vanguard 250 head. The L bracket is for a arcs swiss mount. It looks like B&H sells a Kirk Swiss plate that I can use to replace the plate on the head on my Vanguard. Has anyone done this? Am I better off just getting a Arca Swiss head?

i ended up replacing all my head plates with arcaswiss system,i think it would be cheaper for you to just replace your plate for now and go with the arcaswiss mounting system, one note hear' some of the ballheads can be tricky to switch plates though, and i don't no if your vangard head is keyed or not,is the screw 1/4 or 6mm! you see some are easy to replace some not so much...

Don't know about the Vanguard, but I replaced the quick release plate on a Manfrotto head when I got my first L plate. I googled it and found a tutorial, it was simple and easy.

The Manfrotto head tended to sag a little under weight so I wound up selling that tripod and head and going with a swiss arca Sirui head, which I like and is nice and tight. If I had it to do over, I would just change the head (unless you really like your current head.)

Doable as shown in this vid with a Wimberly (set screws act as anti rotation, no boss stem)

You can probably use any arca swiss clamp you like but it looks like you need an adapter bushing to screw in. -?
