I think it rendors similar results...To me the difference is the AF....The Sigma HSM seems to get better with time 30mm>50mm>85mm....I have a little tougher time in low light with the 30, but nothing too frustrating, it just isn't as fast to lock... as far as IQ? They're both very similar

Thanks. Guess I'll be looking for a Sigma 30. ;)

From what i have seen, they are pretty similar (50 and 30), the difference lies in DOF, but overall, both a lovely lenses to have.
hmm i am not feeling very happy with the level of my photography lately....

Just got my Sigma 30mm..

The focus ring isnt really 'smooth'... Feels a bit rough. Is this normal?

From what I've read there seems to be a bit of variation. But no I don't think it's normal. Mine does something similar but it was not bad enough for me to return it or get it serviced, though I'm sure many would have. It is lots rougher than my 50/1.4 and very much rougher than my 8-16mm which has an "L"-like smoothness. Hopefully it will loosen up in time.

At first it looks like a horse's ass. But click it, and it turns into a unicorn!

Here is mine. Bought that a couple days ago.
IQ is better than mine sold tamron 17-50, but its disapointed me a bit with its AF efficiency. But i'm not sure that it is better on canon 35l

I had a 30 before and compare to the 50, my 50 is sharper around the edges when stop down to F5.6. Since the 50 is also made for the full frame sensors, it'll look even sharper on a crop body. Anyhow, the 30 has more contrast than my 50. They both have the same color, but I see more pop (3D) look with my 50.

50mm significantly more narrow than 30 mm.

I would like to get 35L and compare. Now trying to lease it for a couple of days
