It's fine with me, if all the whining and fussing over 3rd party lenses keeps them cheap....they can cry all they want for all I care. I hope it drops prices further lol

If only prices dropped when people whined... That would be awesome :D

Has anyone done any filming with this lens? I'd love to see some video samples.

By the way, thank you everyone for this thread. Since I'm planning to get a 60D (which has a cropped sensor) I was thinking of getting the 30mm as my prime in place of a 50mm so that it would be truer to a 50mm on a full frame dslr. The photos you all have taken has definitely sold me on this lens. Thanks again

Tis the only lens I use now for video. I've got no examples to share as thery're just of daughter, family, what not. But the quality is fantastic. A big two thumbs up from me.

p.s. I use MF 100% of the time.

Thank you for responding. For my little experience, It looks good to me also. Yeah I feel you about the focus tests, because then I'll be worrying about it. I don't want to look to deep into things!

Thanks for the input rodleviton!

Looks good to me but don't worry too much about focus tests, go out and take some real world pictures and see for yourself ;)

Here, here.

Such a fun lens, get out and explore

Hi guys,
just bought a new Sigma 30 and would like to ask you few questions where is the mistake ( if there is ) :

1) Is it possible that the lens has FF/BF issues only when focused on further objects and focus well when focusing in cca 4 m ?? (wideopen)
When focusing on tree ( cca 100m ) a shrub ( 30 m ) is much sharper.
When shooting a "detail" of flower it seems to be OK.

2) Has anybody noticed a different color temperature when shooting different aperatures ?? (wideopen)

3) Is this aberration normal for shooting wideopen ??

I start to like this lens more and more, especially after the calibration. This is my second favorite lens.

1. Are you using center focus or automatic? Try center focus if you haven't, half press on what you want to focus on then re-frame for the final shot. Then do manual focus and zoom in 10x in live view for where you're focusing and take a second shot. Compare the two and make your judgement from that.

2. I can't say that I have, though that's something that the camera would be controlling.

3. I wouldn't be worried. I noticed that this lens incurs a bit of halation from reflective metallic surfaces. Take a shot in Av at f/1.4 then note the shutter speed. Copy all the same settings (including ISO) and make the shutter speed faster, that should help some. [Instead of copying you can also "underexpose" by holding the Av button WHILE in Av mode and giving your dial a few clicks and knock down the metering to -1, -2, or somewhere inbetween. This is preferred because then you can do this consistently without having to be in manual mode, and comes in handy for other situations than just testing.]
