Just got mine new from Adorama in the last couple weeks. Unlike the Sigma 50mm I had, this one seems to be bang on with focus.

Just got mine! I tested one out at National Camera Exchange and fell in love with it. As soon as i got home i purchased it from Amazon. Was scheduled to get here on Monday but suprisingly it ended up at my door step today. It's very usable wide open.

f 1.4 on both

After seeing all your sample shots guyz, i'm so ordering this to replace my too long 50mm F1.4.

This is wider so... does it make the subject look fatter?

I just hope I'll get a good copy the first time.

Perspective can be a little tricky with closer head shots. I wouldn't say it is the "ideal" head and shoulder portrait lens. For someone that may have a bit of a larger snout to begin with you will need to watch your distance and angle. I don't really find it a problem with kids as their features are smaller to start. Now myself on the other hand... I would rather have someone use my 85 mm to take a head shot of me so I don't look like Pinocchio! I think this is what you may be asking about. My guess is that you will very much enjoy this over the 50mm. It's just so darn usable.

Yah my 50mm is having a hard time getting into my camera body because it's too long.

BTW, I can fix the lens aberrations and distortions in Lightroom, right?

My only concern is to be lucky enough to get a good copy the first time. Reading on some reviews, this sigma 30mm is good if you'll get a good copy. I hope this is not an issue on my 60D. I don't wanna send it for calibration. I can't live without it. :)

yes, I have an import preset in LR3 that enables camera profile on import and this fixes the distortion from the lens. I never even know it was there.

Sorry, but i didn't read through the entire thread. Will this lens work on a full frame body? I know it's designed for a crop but....

wonder are thy sharp enough? just converted in LR to JPEG without any PP. should be big enough to pixel peep them.
Still it is not ok be cause AF often miss - especially at close distance - so calibration will be needed.

what do U think about it?

thanks!

Well, I'm not going to pixel peep because I think you can find imperfections in anything if you do that. But to me they look quite sharp for f1.4. I'm not sure what else you would want. You have a (the equivilant of a) $400 lens not a $1500 lens. With regard to the AF, I think you should stop it down to 2.8 or better yet 3.2 and then see how many miss focuses you get and draw you conclusions from that. I think you are in business and wouldn't send anything in for calibration.
