wonder are thy sharp enough? just converted in LR to JPEG without any PP. should be big enough to pixel peep them.
Still it is not ok be cause AF often miss - especially at close distance - so calibration will be needed.

what do U think about it?

thanks!

Nice shots... i think it's spot on.

i'm sooo waiting to sell my 50mm f/1.4 for this.

Very usuable wide open. Did you move backward to have wider DOF?

again - thanks you for nice comments!

According to modify DOF - I was outside showroom so I had to shoot through window glass and additionally it was dark outside so some external lights reflected on window - lot of problems - therefore I had to take shooting distance as it was without possibility to change it.
And yes - wide open is extremely usable(it is SHARP) (still - pay attention that I've sharpened and B&W photos seems for me to be more sharper in general) especially when distance from subject is bigger than one meter (around 40 inches) AF performs much better (in fact performs in the same way but errors in focusing are less painful :) ) for example in portraits it's some issue but closing aperture a little bit does a miracles! :)

and yes I DO RECOMMEND this lens for crop - it's awesome! built quality, add-ons , warranty, price... try to find other alternative - second to none. only one con is not working with FF. its a pity but here comes sigma 50mm.

More dogs with this lens. It's on the body 90% of the time now.

Hey Krisnr, Nice shots of the cars through the windows. However, I am always amazed at how many people are so obsessed about shooting wide open. I don't see the advantage unless you are using it for low light situations where you cannot use flash. Personally I think the number of situations where you would choose WO apertures for creative purposes are limited especially at close focal distances. For example a portrait would not normally be shot WO unless needed for light purposes. So I took a look at your EXIF info for the B&W ferarri shot to see if I would have used a WO aperture for that shot. Also, it looked as if the DOF was pretty good for 1.4. THis is what flickr says

Exif data
Camera Canon EOS 50D
Exposure 0.025 sec (1/40)
Aperture f/3.2
Focal Length 30 mm
ISO Speed 500
Exposure Bias -1/3 EV

Could this be a mistake. Again, I only looked to see if you really needed 1.4 for the speed. I think so many people get all hung up on shooting WO. Don't get me wrong here either, I am a total shallow DOF junkie and this is why I only have two lenses, two fast primes. I rarely shoot stopped down more than f/4.0. And when at 4.0 the background better be pretty far off!

@idsurfer
ok first of all U are totally right -moreover there is nothing to get wrong! :) this one was shooted at f3,2 - I've just checked! Have no idea how that happened and why I was so convinced that this is WO. So please - all above - take my apologize for this mistake!
Secondly - yes I know that people overuse WO aperture - but this time i did that on purpose - just to have some real life test of AF WO of this copy and as I wrote before it did pretty well - and again yes - shooting WO is extreme situation and let's face it - will happen rarely.

and primes have more pros that just fast aprerture - this image quality and resolution... still thinking about exchanging my 70-200f4 to 85 1,8 - or just buying 85 1,8 and leaving 70-200 coz I just love this lens!

I have done the same thing. I get home and look at EXIF data and think to myself "What the heck was I thinking shooting with those settings?" Sometimes you can just bump a dial and you're done. You are right that primes have more pros than just fast apertures. I think they have a certain "je ne sais quoi" if you will that makes thier IQ something special. Maybe it is the unique perspective certain focal distances can lead to. Bottom line is I love primes and this sigma 30 mm is totally awesome on whichever 1.6 body you may have. Keep em coming folks!

Just re-ordered a sigma 30 1.4. I had one, but I found I didnt use it as much as my 17-50 2.8 and 11-16 2.8. but now I want something faster and with more of a shorter DOF. Cant wait to get it.

Here are a few shots I got with my old one.

I asked the same question in the canon 60d unites thread but i thought i should ask also here hoping some of you has good experience on one supplier than the other...

To ensure the probability of getting a good copy of lens, is there a better place to buy? e.g is it better to buy in b&H than amazon? or just cross our fingers and hope for the best?
