I asked the same question in the canon 60d unites thread but i thought i should ask also here hoping some of you has good experience on one supplier than the other...

To ensure the probability of getting a good copy of lens, is there a better place to buy? e.g is it better to buy in b&H than amazon? or just cross our fingers and hope for the best?

Worse case, just try it out and then just send in your camera and lens to sigma, they will match the lens to your camera. ( thats what they just told me before I ordered mine)

Missing a wide prime. Had the 28 f1.8 for a while but a sold it to get the 17-55. No regrets, but this lens is intriguing despite losing the Sigma lottery on the 50mm. Committed to go all Canon, but 24L and 35L are just so expensive...

Committed to go all Canon

Why?

In quite a few cases you spend a lot more for a tiny bit extra in return, and in some cases you pay more for the same or less.

I find myself using the lens far more than any other because it's just the right focal length for the photos I take.

I LOVE my 70-200 f/4L IS, but I can't always use it. But when I can't use it and don't need super wide, the 30mm is perfect. In reality, you could EASILY drop the 17-55 (or sigma 17-50 2.8 os in my case) and get a UWA to accompany this in addition to a long tele (70-200) and longer if necessary.

Totally agree with you drew. I am looking at dropping my 17-50 for a uwa.

The reason for the commitment to Canon is that I had a bit of bad luck with 3rd party lenses in very short order and swore myself off them. My Canon lenses were fine, but I had issues with every single 3rd party lens I owned at the time. The final straw was the Sigma 50mm requiring 19+ MFA for near field subjects and +4-6 for distant objects, AFTER a $107 calibration. Even then it missed some time. I will admit, it was magic when it worked, but did not have the patience for shipping it back and forth with my camera etc. More power to those who have had no issues, but that is not my experience...
