First,

I want to acknowledge the astounding hard work that Pekka put into the AMASS project. My hat is off to you.

That being said, there is a basic search functionality that was present in the old system that is missing in AMASS. That is the ability to search for my own name and have the result come back with all the threads that I have posted in. The threads with new contributions were in bold face type, the threads that have had no replies since I last read them were in normal type.

This was a quick, easy way to see what has happened since I was last here.

This is missing (or at least is has not been explaned to me) here in AMASS

Take a look below.

In the individual forum view, you can see that MDJAK started a thread an I added 2 posts yesterday. On the right, notice that 6 hours ago, OhLook added something.

Now, first attempt: I search for my own name, results are #1. The thread is there, but there is no indication that OhLook replied 6 hours ago. Further, the thread in question is below (older than?) a thread that has had no activity for more than 24 hours.

Second attempt: Check my "Homepage", results are #2. Again there is no indication that there was new activity in MDJAK's thread 6 hours ago. Looking at this, I would assume that the most current activity were my two posts yesterday.

Third attempt: Try the "For Your Eyes Only" page under "Latest Replies to Any of Your Posts", results are #3. One would think that if a listing of the latest replies to any of my posts are going to be anywhere, they will be listed under "Latest Replies to Any of Your Posts". But, sadly, again, there is no indication that OhLook made his contribution 6 hours ago.

Is there any way to see the activity in threads I have posted in in the same manner that the old "Search for Yourself" function used to present?

The way AMASS is now, I (we) would have to manually enter each and every forum that we have posted in to check for replies. Ugh.

Again, I honor the hard work done to get this project up, but change for the sake of change in not progress. There should be improvement, and, unless I am missing something, this is 500 miles on the opposite side of improvement.

The only thing I have not tried is to "subscribe" to every thread I post in. The reason that I have not tried that, is if I subscribe to EVERYTHING, then those few threads that have some unique and special information, the ones that I WANT to subscribe to, will get lost in ocean of everything else.

???

what if you click on "New and followed" and then on that results page, click to the right of the "New (green check)" onto the "followed and own threads" link?

edit:

Hm.. Looks like you have to click on "follow this thread" to have it show up, not what you were looking for. The search feature you mentioned was very useful. maybe we've both missed something?

Thank you for the comments.

All the listings you so elaborately describe as flawed for your expectations, are meant for the specific purpose they are titled as. It would be pointless to make all those return full thread listings (like forum index" and clutter them with information that is not part of what was requested.

Following a thread is a fool-proof way to NEVER miss a post in that thread. If you choose to not follow threads you have posted in, that is your choice.

In https://photography-on-the.net/forum/newposts.php threads you have posted in are marked as (also in forum indexes): [YOURS: xx]. I do know it is hard to see those at the moment. In upcoming version 1.1. that labeling is significantly clearer, and also the "bolding (& unbolding)" of titles is made absolutely clear so that there is no doubt if a thread has new content. In that environment you can at a glance see if threads were you have posted have recent posts.

As you may know this is a brand new forum software package. If you'd have some patience with its usage and different approaches to various things without punishing it for not being exact copy of all other forum software, I'll be willing to work with all of you to make it work for you, and work better than any other. I did or do not have the luxury of hiring a horde of programmers to make it perfect from day one (tell me one piece of software that was complete in version 1.0 :-)), sorry.

I'm not sure if I'm correct (still confused about a lot of the changes) but I believe that the default for threads I've posted on is for that thread to NOT be followed. To follow it I need to remember to chack the little box, that I never seem to notice. Would there be terrible repurcussions if the defaults were set for such a thread to be automatically follwed unless one were to check a 'No' box?

In the old vB forum software, the control panel gave some options such as email notification and auto subscribe. In AMASS, email notification is coming. To follow a thread (whether you post or not), click on the words "FOLLOW THREAD" on the upper right of the page.

I believe that email notification wasn't used very much. I know that I turned it off very early on as I already get more email than I care to see. I'm on the fence about automatically following a thread. It's almost no effort to click the words once it becomes a habit and occasionally I just want to follow a thread without posting.

Some members, including me, don't want automatic follow. At present, when you post, a popup box asks whether you want to follow the thread. If you ignore the box, nothing happens. In that sense, the default is "not follow," and that's what I prefer. But you don't have to remember to check the (other) little box.

Some members, including me, don't want automatic follow.

And others, including me, do. Could the default action be user-selectable?

That's good news. Otherwise a civil war would break out between the Followers party and the Nonfollowers faction.

Since you are our resident expert on wordsmithing, can you explain "civil war"? :p

I'll bet that real wars have broken out over less significant things. And, ... the Nonfollowers might take offense at being called a faction.
