I should be heading to the Florida Everglades next week to do some landscape/wildlife/macro shooting. I will already be bringing a lot of gear... 150-600mm, 90mm macro, 16-300mm (walk-around lens). The 24-70mm VC F/2.8 is my one only fast wideangle zoom, and I honestly don't want to bring it because it does have weight to it and I don't anticipate needing it much. However... I think I will need to shoot at F/2.8 if I get the chance to shoot some night stars.

Do I need to bring it?

I personally just got the 24-70 recently and absolutley love it. Sharp at 2.8 and at 24mm. Here is a shot of Christmas lights with it at nighttime. You can maybe replace your 16-300 as a walk around lens since you have 150-600.

George - I will probably be doing a travel article on the trip for Tamron, and the 16-300mm VC will be one of the featured lenses. Also it's such a light and versatile lens that it's great for grabbing for a quick walk around a rest stop or visitors center too. I have used the 18-270mm VC for similar duties in the past.
