And just to show the combination in the real world, here's a shot from the Pease air show this summer.

It's not as sharp as it can be in the studio, but throwing in atmospheric conditions, etc. I think it's a very respectable combination.

These were taken today using my 300 + 2X extender on a Mk4 in very poor light. The 300 on the Mk4 is remarkable. I just love the combo.

You will love it! Get yourself a Canon 1.4x and a 2x both are great with this stunning lens! Also this lens is great to use on a sidekick with a Markins head. Another hint the Markins lens plates work perfectly with the new lever clamp with no adjustments necessary.

Thanks for your comments butterfly2937.
I have a Kenko 1.4 and getting the new Canon 2.0 TC III with the lens. I am going to do some homework on the Markins head and lens plate.

It's fairly easy to hand hold. It's also light enough to use a decent (but not super expensive) ballhead.
If I'm not using mine on a Gimbal or 'Frotto 393 head, I'll use it on a manfrotto ballhead that I normally use for landscape stuff.

Congrats on the purchase. It's super super super super sharp. My favourite lens.

Nice shot Keith! Which lens do you use more for air shows, the 100-400 or 300?
