Grizzlyman I agree that does not look good at all, but remember with the 2x you really need to stop down 1 or 2 stops. I find myself between f11 and f16 with the 500 f4 and 2x. Have you tried it stopped down? Hopefully the lensalign will improve things. I have a thread on my experience using lensalign (not with 1D4) but maybe it might help. Ignore the flamers in there though.

Yes I did try my friends 2x, same thing? I use a manfrotto gimbal head on a solid tripod with arca swiss mounts.

Methodical, I mounted a ruler saw horse at a slight angle. Put a peice of electrical take at center. Set up my rig 50 feet away. Shot via live view and made adjustments as I saw.

To date... With my 1dMKIV 3002.8 works alone and with my 1.4x.. Not with my 2x, way OOF.. My 500 4.0 works fine alone and will not work with my 1.4x and 2x.

I just bought a lens align but have not has a chance to use it. This will be my mission tomorrow.

This is the first time with any rig i have owned that my TC have not been tack sharp. I have taken everything in person to Canon service as a member of CPS and they checked everything together and found nothing as they say everything was to thier specs.. I'm at a loss and hoping that buying the lens align and using a differant techique will fix this.

This is why i have asked if anyone has had any luck with TC's on the mkIV.. Here is a sample of what I'm getting. I just had a chance to shot Short Eared Owls and 90% of my shots were OOF until I pulled the TC off and shot without. Any tips would be great,
Thanks
Kurt

Have you tried increasing your shutter speed? 1/200 is slow for 600mm. I shoot this combo at f5.6 with a 7D but I try to keep shutter speeds at minimum 1/1000 to get very sharp images.

Hi Butterfly, I have tried everything! I had no issues with my 7d.
Thanks for the suggestion

It's photos like these on this page that make me think that the new MKII version can't be much sharper! Outstanding work guys and thanks for sharing!
