for those who have this paired with their 7D Mark II, Do you feel like a battery grip is needed for handheld work?

I think it helps. It is really front heavy without one.

I don't miss it. Both, 7D II and the lens, are heavy enough ;-)a so I do not need more wight.

Sweden vs Czech Republic, Karjala Cup 2015 in Fjällräven Center. Sweden won with 6-3. My third time shooting hockey, it's a really fast sport!

Looking to finally get this lens however does anyone have experience with 2x TC III on this lens and would it perform good on the 1DX Mark II? Or should I stick with the 1.4 TC III.

I have this lens and use it. I have used it allot with a 2x III and although AF slows it is very usable. I saw a big difference when I switched to the 2xIII from the earlier version of the 2x.
