Looking to finally get this lens however does anyone have experience with 2x TC III on this lens and would it perform good on the 1DX Mark II? Or should I stick with the 1.4 TC III.

I use the 2xIII with this lens and the 1D4 and get great results - hand holding. I image it would get better if I used a tripod. I can only imagine that it would be even better with the 1Dx. I need to try it with that body one day.

To help speed up AF, set the focus distance switch to 6.4m to infinity, so long as you don't get too close to your subject, but at a minimum distance of 21' that should not pose too much of a problem. With this setting, the focus doesn't have to travel the entire focus distance and therefore makes focusing a bit faster. When I read the reviews that the new 2x gave results like the old 1.4, I sold my old 2x and purchase the new one and have not been disappointed, even on the older lenses.
