Niece asked me to do some Ballerina/Toe shots for her while she was in town. All of her friends were getting them done in cliche places, so we decided to be a little different.

Camera d610 (Nikon....), Lenses were Sigma 85mm f/1.4 and one fishye shot from Rokinon 12mm f/2.8

Thanks for looking! Any feedback or comments are greatly appreciated. I know it's a ton of pics, but I can't seem to find a favorite.

A very lovely set. I'm hoping to get to work with subject matter more along these lines in the new year, as I've mostly only managed to find time for sports and a bit of wildlife since I started, so I sadly can't offer a huge amount of feedback.

Did you have any light modification at all, or was that shot 'as is'? I do find that some of the dress is lost far too much into shadow for some of them.

And I'm curious what happened to her sleeve. Was that an accident, or are they meant to be removable like that for costume modification? (Personally I find it slightly unbalancing to the visual feel of the image. Really not sure why, but a full sleeve on one side with a bare shoulder on the other has always struck me as odd, compared to say, covered shoulder and bare are one one side, and other arm covered to the elbow.)

Of course in a shoot like this I would say that by far the most important factor is how happy your niece is with the outcome.

The Park and City locations were shot with a softbox and speedlight.

The sleeve missing is most certainly by design, seems like a popular design for dance outfits for sure. No idea why lol.

She loved the shoot and the outcome so I feel like I did my job :)
