Please point it out as it's not a sticky, if it exists.

One little thing that has been nagging me is the notification. It's fine, when you're on that tab in your browser. How hard would it be to have the tab react, while you're in another tab? Would it be a pain due to browser fragmentation? Facebook seems to have it working, with sounds even. Not that I use Facebook, much.

Forgot to add, if it's not already been addressed is the ability to reset the notification with out clicking on the thread in question when it's one I don't wish to bother with at the time? It gives the 'close' option but not an option to 'dismiss' so that the notification is always present. Maybe make the notification dismiss once it's 'opened'?

Sorry if this has been covered, already.

To have an instant reaction on all tabs would require a different push technology like WebSockets, but then older browsers would not be compatible and notification updates do not IMHO require a resolution of more than 30 secs, as they are not stock tickers or hear rate graphs :) I will improve them in time, and see how better technologies can be used.

Next version will have a "dismiss current notifications" next to "close" button. BTW, what would be the correct command?

"reset"
"dismiss"
"mark read"
"clear all"
???

Thanks. Not sure if the last question was sarcastic? A dismissal of the notification is what I was referring to. The pinkish/purplish bar, at the top.

It wasn't sarcasm. Pekka was asking for input on how to word the command.

Ahhh. Thanks. I think "Dismiss" seems appropriate.

I'd go for "clear all." The many nonnative speakers on the forum vary in how much English they've learned. "Clear" and "all" are more basic words than "dismiss."

"Dismiss" might be understood to mean "Don't show me the purple bar during this session, but keep the status of the posts as unseen."

Well, that's kind of what I was thinking. Wasn't really wanting the posts to be marked seen, but more of an acknowledgement that I have seen the notification.

In that case, an X in the corner of the bar would do it. Whatever the wording or symbol is, it should be unambiguous. Pekka's other candidates for the wording, "mark read," "reset," and "clear all," would be commands to undo the status of the posts.

Another thought about the purple bar. A few members have objected to the bar as disrupting their visual experience. Maybe a lighter and less bright color would relieve their discomfort. One of these? * * *

I think maybe I should have worded my initial post, differently. It is a notification. I want a way to 'clear' the notification without affecting the post(s).
