Just wanted to give a quick post on this guy as it's cheap ($9.99 / £12.00) , and works brilliantly. It's an IR remote, so you do need line of sight to the camera, but it does support bulb mode! I forget how much the official Sony one is, but I remember it was a bit ridiculously priced last time I checked. Haven't tested it outside at distance yet, but it works just fine if you're standing near the camera like you would for landscape work.

P.S. You do need to turn "Remote Control" option to 'ON'.. I think it's in tab #6 (toolbox) / page 3, on the A7R.

That's the same as the one I had, although branded differently. Works perfectly with bulb. First press starts exposure second press stops it. Think mine was £7

I've used this outside at a distance, and it's horrible.

in the sun, you'll be lucky for it to work 5 feet away. There's an app that works ok if you need distance shooting. Wifi based and requires a smartphone. Clunky menu, otherwise it works.

Good to know! I just needed something to replace a standard cable release for landscapes, for that it seems to work really well.

I never tried it at distance, I just used it at point blank range for landscapes
