Looked through all the pages and found zero concert photos... :(
I'm using a T2i and am curious about one thing. I have a 50mm lens for my camera, but I plan on shooting a few rock shows over the summer and I'm pretty sure the 50 is too cropped for concerts, especially since I'll be shooting from the area between the front row and the stage. Is this lens wide enough to capture good images from the very front of the stage?

It's definitely one of the bang for the buck lenses you can get for crop camera. If you are shooting outside then Canon 17-40mm L is good. And I only have good things to say so far about the Sigma 15-30mm I got for almost no money. If you are going to shoot indoors then Sigma 20mm f1.8 is good... or 17-40+flash...

Well .. I'll suggest, that you check the photos, you've already done with your other (zoom-??)lenses. Take a look how many of them have been shot in the range ~25-40mm. You can do this easily with a smart-selection in Lightroom.

edit: try searching the group-pool on flickr ... here are some concert pictures: http://www.flickr.com …91%40N00&m=pool&q=concert (external link)

Yeah I really like the MFD of this lens. It's already really short to begin with so you can get really close to objects (good or bad depending on the subject, lol).

What does everyone think about this on a crop? Is it too zoomed in? I know the 50 is alot of times.

I love it on my 40D, it gets you really close to 50mm equivalent.

The guy in the back tilting his head... is that on purpose (one of your models) or just a coincidence?

Did you ask him to tilt his head that way, knowing you were planning to frame it as shown?
