@virto
They are still awaiting stock apparently. I kept calling everyday last week and the guy sounded he's already pissed of hearing my voice. He said he'll ring me when the lens is in stock.
The lens hood really looks like a genuine canon hood and it also has the velvet lining. It's actually a knock off one from ebay which I bought for a fiver. Not bad!

1D - ISO 200, EF 35mm f2 at f13, 1/640 sec

Should have used a higher shutter speed to keep it from being blown out, but the harsh midday sun makes it hard to see even the histogram on the back of the camera.

Did not last an hour

Well, I finally collected my lens before lunchtime today. It didn't last an hour with me though as the focusing mechanism got stuck. It works on autofocus but when I switch to manual, the focusing ring sometimes gets very stiff and the front element does not move.
I immediately went back to Calumet for an exchange but they didn't have any atm, they are still waiting for stock so I got a refund. I don't know if I'm going to order another one or go for something else. I waited six weeks just to be disappointed.

AFAIK, this lens was taken from another store and sent to my local branch.
It could be a returned lens as the contacts have been scartched, but I could be wrong.

Edit:
I took a handful of shots with it and I was not happy with the result wide open. It was fuzzy even after microadjustment. It only got sharp at f2.8 and above.

OMG. This sends me speechless. The contrast is amazing and the sun sparkle is spectacular. Wow!

Strobe,

The lens is not really sharp at f2, but bringing it down to 2.8 should help, as you found. Of course, since you've managed to get a broken copy, your f2 images might not be up to par.

After such a long wait, I'm sure you're incredibly disappointed. Have you decided if you'll take the refund or wait for an exchange yet?

Given the scratched up contacts, I wouldn't be surprised if it was used as an in-store demo, possibly mounted only once for a customer that walked in. It's unlikely that it was returned and then resold as new.

I actually asked for a replacement but then I was told they are still awaiting stock and no clue when stock arrives. So I got a refund. I then ordered a 24-105L from an online retailer which I have sent back for a refund last Friday. It was badly front focusing at 24mm to 50mm. I guess I'm really lucky.
Now I'm undecided whether to get a 28mm f1.8 USM or order the 35 f2 again.

Mine was tack sharp at f/2. However the focus ring was sticking, so it's in the mail to Canon now.

i picked up this one a few weeks back before my sisters wedding so i could have just one lens on during the whole thing...do you guys use the hood with this lens? i got a little worried with the way it attaches to the focusing part that extends...i dunno maybe i'm just being paranoid, but it seems like a little bump could cause more harm...anyways some shots

The official hood is a snap on affair that should fit in the indented ring between the front of the lens and the distance scale.

A screw in hood can be used, but I prefer the original design. See Strobe's pic just above for the actual OEM hood.
