Canon EF 35mm f/2

been looking for a better walking around lens for my T2i and I think this might fit the bill. Hopefully tax return comes soon. I am still in need a zoomy lens in this range as well so its either this or a 17-50 2.8 when the money comes. I am leaning this way though.

This lens is excellent for the T2i. A "true" 50mm FOV for a crop and it is perfect for a walk-around/general purpose duties.

^^ Definitely don't find them depressing. Very nicely done.

Eh, ok maybe not depressing, but they definitely feel "ominous" and perhaps a bit creepy..

That fog was REALLY thick...

I like them a lot! They give off a great feel.

Nope, they don't make me depressed, just anxious for Thursday to get here so I can try mine out! Rain and storms predicted for then, so maybe we'll get a little fog down this way to play with.

Only thing i wished for was a 5DII or another full frame body there because i think it mighta looked even better and been more suited to this sort of work..

Ah well, My 7D still works very well

The odds had to catch up with me eventually, and they did today. I've never had to return a lens, all the ones I've bought through the years have all been great right out of the box. But alas, my new 35 f2 is quite soft in the top right corner. I tried it numerous times on different surfaces and subjects, on a tripod, squared up with the wall, and each time the results were the same. If was better by f5.6, and just barely noticeable at f8, but it was too bad to overlook.

I can tell though that this thing would do a fine job. Slight CA at 2.0, particularly on the chrome trim on the car I was shooting, but it was minor and would clean up easily in PP - much less than my 50 1.4. It's sharp, with good contrast and color in various lighting situations. Focus is noisy, but quick and sure. Build is adequate for anything I would do with it.

Bummer it has to go back, but win some, lose some.

I did have one image which, for some reason, was soft on the right side, No reason for it... I chalked it up to just missing focus

As soon as I mounted it on my 60D, I took a couple of handheld pictures of the bricks of my house at various f stops, like I do every new lens I get. Uploaded them and immediately noticed the soft top right corner. Got out the tripod, squared everything up, and took a handful more, same result. Focus was dead on because the center, and left side were very sharp, even at 2.0. Right side was a little soft, top right a good bit soft. This lens fit tighter than I'm used to when mounting it up, certainly harder to twist on than any of my other 3 Canon's. Don't know if that had anything to do with it or not.

you know mine is real tight too comparied with my other lens, but it's not soft at all
