After watching the annual 24 hours of "The Christmas Story" and the Canon Mail In Rebates ending soon "I'm a..I'm a thinkin"

1. Grabbing a second 5D Mark III.

Sure a 5D Mark IV could be on the horizon. However a net price $2799 with Mail In Rebate is not bad at all. Having a second of same body on the job does come in handy. Plus if serviced, I am not without one.

2. 16-35 f /4 L IS Mail In Rebate $150.00

Last year I purchased a 17-40 L for the Mark III body. Have been getting nice results.
The new 16-35 with slightly wider angle and of course Image Stabilization, which I am a fan while handholding while walking? Supposed better corner sharpness. Do the people that upgraded their 17-40 to the new f4 L IS see the same? Like last year, f/2.8 is not a real concern for me as this would be used stopped down primarily for architecture.

While I do have the 24 Tilt shift. many times I need to go wider. 17 mm Tilt in the future?

3. 24-70 ?

Have been using the 24-105 for six years now. This last year with 24-105 on the 5D Mark III, 24mm on the full frame, the distortion is apparent.
Thinking of adding either the 24-70 f/4 L IS or the 24-70 f/2.8 L Mark II.
The Lack of IS keeps me from sealing the deal on the 24-70 f/2.8 L Mark II. Maybe it's just me, but I do like the option of IS. Please Canon, Please!

The 24-70 f/4 L IS with its real low price of 999.00 with Mail In Rebate of $200.00 has this for the net price of 799.00. Improved distortion, however I am hearing the sharpness at 50 mm may not be up to par as my old trusty 24-105.
Not including the 24 TS-E Tilt Shift, Distortion at 24 mm is better with my 17-40 L

So there it goes, no real slam dunk. Having nice rebates is always a plus....just thinking out loud.

If you want a 5d Mark III, it is cheaper to get one from B&H with a Canon Pro-100 printer and some paper. They have the Camera/Printer/Paper combo for the same price as the camera alone. The all three itmens deal has a higher refund so your total cost is less than what you have mentioned.

That's even cheaper than the Canon refurbs!

Must wait for bonus and tax season, must wait for bonus and tax season...

Went for this deal yesterday at B&H. First I called Canon rebates as a $650 rebate sounded like
a little to good to be true they verified this to be correct. This is how it breaks down you pay up
front $3,099 $650 rebate dump the Pro 100 printer for $100. For $2,349 you get the 5D 3, 50 sheets
of 13X19 paper, 32GB Sandisk CF card, Shoulder Bag and a extra battery on top of that free
shipping.
