I need to replace a worn out print head on my IPF6400. After replacing the head it needs to be calibrated. Canon recommends using the same paper that came with the printer for calibrating. Problem is they don't specify what that paper actually is. Any ideas or help?

If it's anything like my iPF8400, it came with Canon 170gsm Matte Coated Paper.

Thanks. They did ship it with paper but wasn't sure which. Did your paper specifically say it was the 170 matte coated?

To benefit anyone who happens to search this thread in the future:

I called and spoke with Canon service this morning. They recommended a Heavyweight Coated Paper (Link Below):

Also, they recommended printing at least something once a week. Basically the technician said if you are not printing pictures print a nozzle check once a week. Apparently it only burns a little bit of ink and it will significantly increase head life (I only got a year out of this one). At $427.50 for a print head I would rather burn a little ink and paper and extend the life of the print head.

Yes. The paper was marked Matte Coated Paper 170 gsm, the only Canon Matte Coated my dealer stocks is 90 & 170. The profile from Canon also says 170 gsm. My machine is a little over 2 years old, maybe they made a change?

ThreeHounds,
Thanks for your replies. Yes they might have made a change but I suspect that the coated paper is more the key than the weight. I have ordered a roll of the correct paper from B&H so I have it. I will use it to calibrate, to print nozzle checks to keep the head fresh and occasionally for some blue print drawings that I do for my business.
