I have posted on here b4 as I have a really hard time with landscape. I have not been out at all as it has been very ugly out. I just went and snapped a few pics. One of an old barn..was hoping for some feed back on what I can do better.

Definitely like the second one better. The first, even though in color, is frankly just a little boring. The second gives it a different look that is definitely more appealing, at least too me.

I would say yes, too washed out. I'd darken up everything. The B&W is probably a good idea.

I'm with SQ. I like the high key light effect of the second one. If it were me, I would have tried to stop down the aperture for greater DOF, then process it so the sparse blacks would have greater detail. Just my $.02--and, for what it's worth, I don't shoot scenics much. These are handheld, right?

Care to elaborate why you think you're having a hard time with landscapes?

Thanks for the feedback!

I just don't feel I have the eye for it yet. When I look at something I see beauty in it, but it does not come across in the pics..it comes across boring or lack of subject.

Hah, I feel like that every time I look at a new batch of pictures. Took a zillion yesterday on a hike, all disappointing. I think it just means landscape photography is hard.

I think the newer version of the barn is quite a bit better.

Thanks.

I go out with high hopes of capturing something and I get back and feel let down. But it is still fun getting out!

I like the last one, to me it captures what it really is, a barn nobody really cares for.

Ok, how to say this so it makes sense...

Of the original two, I liked #1 better, except that I wished I could see in the barn, just a little.

I really like your last posted/edited shot better than the original two, but I personally would prefer to have the ground cropped more like the first shots so as to remove the distracting bush from the bottom right. In the b&w it is too much contrast/distraction for me. If it were my shot, I might even try to clone the bush out to see how it looks.

Thanks for sharing!

Thank you so much for your feedback!

As for wishing you could see in the barn.. I purposely made it so you couldn't as there was a lot of junk in there (including a big yellow rod, so that is why it is even darker in the color pic) and found it distracting. As far as cloning things out I us LR and I really struggle cloning things out. I am not sure if that is the way LR is or I just have to really mess around with it. Agree on the bush on the right..I will mess with that!

Thanks again

I believe you got it right in the final image, at least for my taste. I like that you basically combined the back lighting of the barn wall in the first shot with the small amount of structure details in the second. Nice job!

Yeah, good luck with that :p Sometimes I can get Lightroom to do a good enough job, but most of the time I need Photoshop.
