So i'm thirty next month and have been thinking for the last few months that i want a car. I currently ride a 125cc Scooter and whilst great in traffic i'm getting annoyed with riding in the rain here in the UK... That and the fact my bike got stolen on new years eve!

I've found the bike hidden in the bushes down the road totally unharmed so that's one thing...

As much as i love photography i've suddenly felt tonight like selling all my camera kit and buying a small 2 seater car... Something along the lines of an MG Midget, Mazda MX5 or a Toyota MR2.
Am i just having an early mid life crisis or should i consider this? One reason i've thought of leaving the 'tog game is that round here EVERYONE thinks they're a photographer and is willing to shoot for free so i'm lucky to get ANY paid work.

Out of interest what to people think i could get for all the kit in my sig?

Making a large purchase because of a sudden feeling is a bad idea unless you're so rich that you don't have to sell anything to do it and you wouldn't miss the money. Sleep on it, sleep on it.

I am not quiet sure what your problem is.
Is it the fact that you are about to make a splurge purchase or the fact that you don't get pad work? I am not sure how these 2 problems would be interconnected ...

You may just get more out of the car. You could get a small point and shoot to take pictures with. I agree with your comment:

the 'tog game is that round here EVERYONE thinks they're a photographer and is willing to shoot for free

seems the same most everywhere. They also feel it's just a hobby for me and that I look forward to shooting pictures for free and spending hours of my time processing.

I say get the car.

See i used to really enjoy doing shoots and stuff and was really proud when i saw my work online but now it seems that i could use a Mavika and stick them on instagram and get just as much love.

Seems anyone with a dslr gets props for even the crappiest photo's. I can't believe the photo's folks post online they feel are magazine cover quality work. I wouldn't wipe my backside with some of the crap out there. Enjoy the new ride.

Is getting love the reason for taking photos, then? Would a car bring you love?

I get feedback at POTN and from local people who see some of my photos. It all counts. I'm not trying to sell anything, so I don't have the worry about not getting paid.

All I'm saying is, don't make a big decision in a hurry.

nah, i appreciate that advice and i'm going to have to think it over and probably will end up taking the wise advice of my wife!

It would be nice to make a bit of money given what i put in and my target audience.

Yeah i was shooting at Castle Combe and had a bit of a chat with them as well as Danny Eyles, Ollie Elmore and Baggsy. It was a good day. That is the bit i love about it but people just seem to be interested in getting something for free.
