Looking at a6000 on CL. Supposedly BNIB. Dude says he can print proof of purchase from amazon. Will that work for a potential warranty claim?

As long as it hasn't been registered I would imagine you would be fine. Otherwise people who got their Sony stuff as a gift would be up a creek.

right, haven't thought about it. You are most likely right. How is you A7II treating you? I am so ready to jump ships, just little concerned about AF performance in low light

I went from a 5D3 which it looks like you have as well. I honestly love my A7II and wouldn't even think about going back. The A7II low light AF performance is quite a bit better than the A7 (I have both). It's not as good as the 5D3 but is EXCELLENT in moderate to good lighting conditions. The tracking is very impressive as long as there is decent light. It kind of depends on what your shooting tho. Night clubs would be a problem but for most people around the house I don't think they will have a problem with the II.

IMO the II is overall a very good upgrade form the original A7. I think the extra cost is definitely worth it. I do like the A7 more for the size and weight but the features of the A7II definitely make it the better camera. I do about 3 wedding a year and I have a lot of confidence in this system for weddings based on the tests I have done so far (I see you are a wedding photog too). I got some practice at a friends wedding I was attending and the lighting was what I would consider pretty low and the focus didn't have a problem.

I haven't had to use warranty yet, but from lurking on the various Alpha related forums, it seems Sony CS is not particularly picky as long as it's not a grey market item.

I purchased a used A7r that came with the original sales receipt. I had to send the camera to Sony to get something fixed under warranty. No problems, just included the original sale receipt, even though it was not my name or address on it, and Sony fixed the issue under warranty.

As someone else already stated, just keep in mind that it cannot already be registered. Most people these days don't go to that effort unless they have to send it in for a repair. If it's within the warranty period, it's a good bet that its never been sent in, so it's mostly a non-issue. They can and will check their system to see if anyone else has ever had warranty work done for your serial. The receipt doesn't even need to be that specific (doesn't need a serial)--any proof that someone purchased from an authorized vendor is good enough for them.
