olive oil on the front element. :P

Check your sharpening settings. Are you using JPG or RAW?

I'll trade you mine for yours. Over the years mine has gone from sharp to soft. And it's clean. :)

Raw 0 sharpening. The weird thing is when you view the images at 50% in canon dpp they become even sharper

Shoot at f1.4-1.6. That'll soften things up.

What software are you using to process images? It should be no problem to reduce sharpness.

Canon digital photo pro I'm very interested to find out how you can reduce sharpness in this software.

Post a 'too sharp' shot, with EXIF intact, please. That is certainly a new take on this lens.

I'm not sure why you are saying this, the 50/1.4 remains one of Canons sharpest lenses in absolute sharpness. Looking over the Photozone tests, there is only one Canon lens I can find that produces a higher single point sharpness score than the 50/1.4, in the center at f4, and that is the TSE 24. Even the new Sigma 50 Art doesn't score as high in a single test point. The 24-70 II, 70-200/2.8 II, 16-35 IS or 100-400 II all do not score as high of a test point at any combination.

The 28 1.8 is nearly the 50 1.4's equal in the center of the frame at f/4. If we limit the discussion to f/4 in the center of the frame, don't most lenses qualify as really sharp? My 50 1.4 is nearly indistinguishable from my 28 1.8 at the frame's edge with both at f/2. Wide open in the center of the frame, the 28 1.8 turns in higher numbers. I don't think of the 28 1.8 as a 'too sharp' lens.

Heya,

There's a sharpness slider in the RAW portion of Canon's DPP.

And later, in post, you can always apply an unsharpening mask.

Is this a troll thread? (serious question...)

Very best,

Yes it is a serious question took some studio portrait pictures 125 /f8 canon 6d and they were very sharp looking even with 0 sharpening .i think my problem is I was using 40d before and that camera required quite a bit of sharpening, not got used to 6d superior image quality

Don't listen to him ^^^^ ;)

I'm only a few miles down the M5. Swap with mine instead :)

In all seriousness. I use Lightroom & there are sharpening & clarity sliders in there that go both ways & I'd imagine DPP would be the same/similar. As you say, it could just be the big difference in what you are used to with the old body.

You don't have any editing changes set 'at import' or anything like that do you?

Typically when we hear the lens is too sharp, macro lenses are the first to come to mind at least for me they are. Yet the 50/1.4 and even as you mentioned the 28/1.8 score an absolute higher value than any of the macro lenses on FF over at photozone. Yet both lenses are weak wide open and in the corners and I wouldn't concider either too sharp. However, in a studio where one is stopped down to max sharpness with a subject in the center of the frame, both perform brilliantly.
