I picked up a Sigma 35mm 1.4 art and i love it. Decided to go out and shoot with a few friends. We used the 35mm, Canon 45 TSE Lens, and we were both shooting Canon 5d mrkIIIs. C/C is ALWAYS welcome. Always looking to grow and others critiques and comments are always taken in a productive manner.

Nothing to do with the photos, which are most beautiful by the way. Great job on them. but what is an art lens? ive never heard of it. are they? like a premium model of sigma lenses?

also on the second and third image, second mostly, it looks like you tried to add depth of field to the image. her forehead and chin are out of focus but her face is not. did you add a tilt shift filter to it? sorry I just couldn't help but notice.

Yes, they are exactly premium primes of Sigma ;)

No need to apologize! I was actually using a Tilt shift lens on that image. Numbers 2 and 3 were taken with a 45 Canon Tilt shift. Thank you for the compliments on the images. The "Art" are a specific line of Sigma's. I believe they are considered the "L" of Sigma. I have yet to own one that has disappointed me. I actually prefer the 35 1.4 Art over the 35 1.4L.

#6 and #8 are great shots! I think 8 might be my favorite.

I also like #5, but the necklace is kinda bugging me... I can clearly see what it looks like in the other shots, but in this one it looks like a neck wound of some sort.

Sorry, but I find the blurring/dof from the tilt shift too distracting.

Thanks for sharing!

I think that number 5 is my favorite. You have nice saturation throughout, but I like the editorial quality of that shot the best. It also has the best balance and use of leading lines, her light hair blancing the dark stripe behind her, the stairs and boards on the wall lead to her and the post balances her mass with mass on the other side. The only thing I notice is that my focus on her is broken by the vertical post becuase of the clarity of the verticle grain. Then why my eye catches that I move right up or down out of frame. But it took a bit of studying the picture for my eye to start doing that. Overall the shot has a nice organic quality that is filled with variations on a single color tone. By contrast your second model's top is brighter and has a loud pattern. It makes her stand out of the background more BUT I fight with the composition as she feels out of place a llittle.

Excuse me, but I heard there would be cake?

I think for all of them the exposure, colour, contrast is well done. The unnatural blurring on #2 is off-putting. I'm not sure what you were after, but in 2, 3, 5, 6 the model looks dull and expressionless.

Thank you for your input, everyone! Tilt Shift shots aren't for everyone. I just had access to my buddies so i wanted to try it out. Like everything else, i think there is an appropriate place for it i just don't know if portraits is one of them. haha.

Any lens is for any type of shot. Its all about taste and if you think it works or not. Just because most people prefer to open a bag with scissors doesn't mean it can't be done with a knife!

Good job with the exposure for such a blah day. The first shot has a nice 3D effect, but the power lines running through her head could stand to be cloned out. The last shot has a similar 3D effect. I like it, although I'm not crazy about that shirt she's wearing. Very busy design. Overall, well done. Tough lighting but you handled it well.
