Any thoughts on this, Nikon shooters? Looks like a Diffractive Optics lens from Nikon (PF, Phase Fresnel).

Quite interesting. Here's an article from Nasa on how they are testing/designing Phase Fresnel lenses to improve studying x-ray and gamma ray energy. http://esto.nasa.gov …hn_c11p3_nstc-07-0148.pdf (external link)

6" total length? That's pretty amazing. Can't wait to see some test shots.

3" shorter and nearly half the weight of the existing 300 f/4. It's smaller and lighter than the 70-200 f/4. My interest is peaked even though I have the existing one already.

Yeah, half the weight sounds great. I wonder how the flare and bokeh is like though. Guess we'll have to wait until the lens is released and consumers shoot some sample pictures?

Looks very promising. I do however want to see a lot of samples and reviews before making a purchase.

Same here.. looks like a great birding lens with a TC bolted on it.. Nice small compact and unobtrusive.. So long as the IQ is great it should be a hit

I still prefer to test myself.

Id still like to see more samples of the bokeh and such from this lens. The samples look sharp no doubt but some of those samples are eh..plus reviews help :-)

The squirrel shot looks pretty good as far as bokeh goes. Bokeh is usually something Nikon does right, ie 200 f/2 and 58 f/1.4.

Not sure if I like the bokeh in that shot, probably need to check out samples with a different background. Bokeh on the mountain shots are good, but I suspect that specular highlights in the background could be its weakness. Lot of companies do bokeh right after a certain price point, lol.
