Welp. The rumor is true. Canon has announced the Canon 6D with the 24-105 STM IS lens at $2,199. Lock if old.

Saw that this morning and what I find odd is the same kit, with the 28-105L lens is only 200 bucks more. I dont know why you WOULDNT go for the L. And with the rebates going on, the 6D with 28-105L is 200 CHEAPER then the no L version. Very interesting price model they have for this.

I'm guessing this is a quirk due to the new kit being released during a rebate promotion, and that the STM kit will be included in future rebate promotions at prices which keep it below the L kit.

...for some people.

For videographers, the new 24-105mm is a better option due to the STM focus.

I dont believe the 6D has AF during video, so the STM is a moot point. Its a variable aperture lens so I think for video will be quite a hassle. Frankly canon just wants to sell the 6D at a cheaper price to make it more attractive for new customers, to compete with say the A7 kit.

I does not make any sense, STM Lens for a FF KIT? I'm glad I was able to buy the 6D with the 24-105mm f/4 L IS for $2099 after the $300 rebate...............

No less sense than Nikon and Sony offering variable aperture lenses as kits with their entry level APS bodies. Nikon sold the D600 and D610 with the 24-85/3.5-4.5 VR and Sony the 28-70/3.5-5.6 with the A7.

There are plenty of people who think that the body is more important than the lens. These inexperienced photographers might one day regret purchasing the lesser kit lens with their 6D, but saving $200 may still prove to be appealing.

yup.

once people get used to using their crop, the first thing many think "is i need a ff camera so i can get better!" Having bought only EF-S lenses, they need something to go on it. Boom, cheap kit lens.

if anything this is probably a case of Canon listening to their customers. Nah, can't be.
