I have a Canon PowerShot A590 IS, and I want to get a remote shutter release for long exposures. My owners manual's list of accessories doesn't list anything available through Canon. Is there something out there either a Canon product or after market that will solve my problem?

I don't think that your camera has a connection for a shutter release. What comes to my mind is to use a manual mode and a self timer instead.

There is no InfraRed wireless remote either so you are stuck with using the self-timer function.

If you are "adventurous" there is a software program called CHDK that you can install on your camera. http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/CHDK (external link)

It includes a hack for your USB port to be used as a remote shutter release.
