Hi all, this is my first post to the site and sorry it might seem like a noob question but here goes.

I was gifted an old Canon EF 28-80mm F2.8-4 L lens and bought a lens hood for it (EW-79), but when the hood arrived it was a different part number (EW-79BII). I bought it from ebay and the seller was very apologetic and offered me a refund on return, but I just thought I'd ask if anyone knew the difference between the two lens hoods EW-79 vs EW-79BII? Save me having to return the item (bit of a pain for me)

Thanks
Daniel

The lens hood for the 28-80 isn't a twist on one like the one you have been sent. It's pushed on, and then released with by pressing two 'bottons' on the hood that are opposite each other.

Thanks for the reply. The hood that I have isn't twist on though, it looks very similar to the EW-79 with two locking tabs either side, and it seems to fit the lens ok. I guess the only difference is it's newer (?). Canon shows this hood (EW-79BII) is for the Tilt Shift TS-E 45mm f/2.8 lens, but as I said, it seems to fit my 28-80mm f2.8-4 L, I guess I'll just take it out and shoot to see if I get any vignetting.

If it is too short you will get less than optimal protection from stray light.
