I think I have an idea for a great, new feature.

It is best illustrated by a recent thread which is titled: AdobeRGB1998 or ProPhotoRGB?

The new feature / tool might be named something like the "Good Gawd, are you kidding me? Again? Did you even bother to search? Automatic thread combiner" tool.

It would work something like this:

It would scan the database for thread titles.

When if finds dozens of "AdobeRGB vs. ProPhoto" threads, or hundreds of "AdobeRGB vs. sRGB" or thousands of "Ken Rockwell is a Dufus" threads it would automatically combine them into a single thread.

As an additional feature suggestion might be the "Learn to Search Penalty Assessment" trigger.

When the user posts the millionth iteration of an already over-done thread, the feature will temporarily remove posting access and send a PM with a link to a tutorial on "How to Use the POTN Search Feature." The message will explain that after they go thru the tutorial, if they check the "WOW! POTN has a search feature! I didn't know!" box at the bottom, all access will be instantly restored.

Just an idea for future upgrades. :)

Sorry, just a little too abstract for me to understand.

I think he's playing off a British slang expression that isn't familiar to most Americans.

Because when writing for an international audience, it's not up to the reader to research the meaning of regional and/or abstract references a writer uses, but rather, the responsibility of the writer to ensure they are easily understood by an international audience.

And that's the point, Annie. Satire is not satire if it uses references that are not understood.

As said above "for the lernz" :

(this may be helpful for people who have not noticed or do not understand POTN is an international meeting place):

alternate name for new feature: when one doesn't understand a technical aspect of photography they should search before posting, yet when one doesn't understand an foreign phrase they should never have to search

maybe we could shorten it down to an acronym: woduataoptssbp, ywoduafptsnhts

PSA: The above post may contain sarcasm, reply at your own risk | Not in gear database: Auto Sears 50mm 2.0 / 3x CL-360, Nikon SB-28, SunPak auto 322 D, Minolta 20
