Fine, they beat me. I'm making square versions for things requiring square (instagram, the smartwatches etc).

The first question: what is the maximum resolution that Instagram will send down to any device?

For the full-computer version in a web browser it is 512x512.

But what happens if you use the mobile app on a large tablet with -say- 2560x1600? Will they send native? Will they scale up from 512x512? Upload seems to be limited to 2048x2048 either way.

My imagine composition sucks. I need a heavier lens.

Just an FYI, there is no tablet (at least iOS) version of instagram.. You use the scaled iPhone app. Don't know if that helps.

I'd just cover your bases, send them full res 1:1 crops, as well as upload ready 2048x2048.

Well, the thing is. I would really like to reduce the size of the square things are much as possible because they will float around the phone and the smaller the better.

AFAIK I have to go through my phone to post on instagram, unless I overlook some web version feature.

Having said that, I am in a position now to self-test with a Nexus 10.

I have been transferring pics from my PC to phone via dropbox, in order to post on Instagram. Just found out about Bluestacks app player that allows you to run your playstore apps on your PC. Just installed it now.

I have no problem with the transfer, I use rsync. But it would be annoying if it took up undue amounts of space on the phone.

Once it's uploaded to Instagram just delete it off your phone.

I have it on my iPad as well? Not sure what your point was, but mine was that there's not a native iPad version. It's a scaled iPhone version.

And if you're still running iOS 5, I'm sorry for you. ;)

The point was that the specs on the app says iPad compatible. Your statement made it seem as if instagram would not run on a tablet. I was giving another view. No need for your sorrow im quite happy with my first gen iPad. Keep the attitude.

Instagram saves images to my phone at 1920X1920 pixels.
I believe that is standard across all devices.
