This has become very common. They are attempting to harvest emails as well as point potential buyers to scam "auction" sites. I reported one to craigslist and it was gone within an hour, maybe sooner.

Wish I had a disposable email, I would see if he wanted to meet in person.

It was also recently on the Colorado Springs craigslist.

Several months back I contacted a CL listing in NYC selling a 5D3 + 24-105 at a price that was too good to be true, so I played along. The seller got back to me, but said he was actually in Maryland, and would ship it to me after payment (oh, I'm sure). Soon after, I located the same snapshot images for an ebay listing in Texas. So I messaged the CL seller about the strange coincidence and included the ebay link.

He was never heard from again.

I'll take it!

Over the years I have played these guys at their own game. I ask dumb questions and keep asking them, just to waste their time. In the end I tell them I am willing to pay cash - when they tell me they are in a different city I let them know I have a cousin in the same city and he will meet up with them to pay cash. I normally tell them I am in a rush and willing to pay more than the asking price if I can pay cash.

When they ask for checks etc I ask for their bank account details so I can do a direct deposit. One day one of them will slip up.

Sure, and for your troubles I will add $100 PayPal for shipping. Please kindly forward me your email address at your earliest convenience.

(please note that I am kidding. I get these messages all the time from CL yahoo's)

I got "responses" through text almost within 5 minutes of posting EF24-70 f2.8 L and EF100-400 V-1 lens in separate ads in local Kijiji (similar to Craiglist), these scammers obviously have robotic software constantly mining these CL and Kijiji type forums for certain keywords.

I strung one along for a while too, saying: "I only meet face-to-face and don't ship because of scammers, you wouldn't be a scammer, would you?"

His response was: "OMG, I know what you mean, no I assure you I am not a scammer and PayPal is safe for both buyer and seller."

Oh, Ok, I guess I am safe then.

That's when I replied to him: "Nice try, you &^%$#@"

Strangely that's the last I heard from him.

Reminds of a CL listing I saw a few years ago. EF 600 f/4L IS II: $800. Excellent condition.

I contacted via e-mail that I wanted it. The reply: I am in a wheelchair. Please come to my house at: ---. Bring cash.

Why certainly! Hold your breath until I get there.

He forgot to add "come alone."

Too good to be true. It's a scam. They just want your email. Sometime they relied: "The camera in other state, you have to send some deposit".

Why not...tell the seller that you are coming with couple of friends. The worst that would happen is that the camera is stolen. Or you would be robbed because you went there by yourself....

I think everyone is over reacting. CL is a very safe place and no stolen goods are sold there. as a mater of fact I'm buying one as soon a killer deal like that comes up!
