Been having a few issues with my 1D today and thought I'd see if anyone has every experienced similar issues. Otherwise this can hopefully help anyone who encounters similar issues in the future.

Everything started a few minutes (maybe 1 or 2) after I switched on the camera this morning. First it was working normally, then all of a sudden while reviewing a photo I just took the screen started blinking irregularly (2 to 3 times a second). As if someone was repeatedly pressing the info button. I switched it off, turned it back on, and the screen just wouldn't show. Not when I press the Info button, not when I try to review images. When I pressed the image preview button and tried to use the dial to rotate between images (blindly) I could notice that data was being accessed from the card which I think indicates that the camera itself was operating normally. I could also take shots with the camera behaving as expected too (felt a bit like having a film camera at times! :) ) At this point I resigned myself to the fact that the LCD on my camera may have just gone, or at the very least there's a loose connection somewhere.

However, I then tried to switch on live view, just to see what happens, and immediately got an Err70. (A quick search for this error only provided similar issues on different bodies with the Magic Lantern firmware on). switching the camera off was futile, I had to take the battery out and plug it back in for the shutter to close.

At point, I just left the battery all apart and went to plug it back in 30 minutes later. The screen started flickering again and after a couple of seconds started working normally. I immediately had a look in the menu and cleared the camera settings (just in case) but I noticed that the firmware version was reading 1.0.0! I knew I had 1.1.4 installed. At this point, I formatted the memory card, switched it off and replaced the battery again and it's been working normally ever since. I did notice that the default image name has become AC6Q+image number which I thought was a bit strange - I don't think this is the default setup. Could this perhaps indicate that some part of the onboard memory was corrupted?

Has anyone ever experienced something similar and could shed some light? I'm tempted to send it in to get checked but I wouldn't want to waste any money if they cannot reproduce the issue. The screen flickr issue only happened once before for a second or so and turning it off and on again did the trick.

If anyone has the same issue I guess my only advice as of now would be to take off the battery and leave it out for half an hour or so.

EDIT: V1.0.0 is the 1D IV Factory menu! Opened a separate thread about the factory menu on the 1D IV as I'm not sure if it's a cause or an effect.

Did you say you had Magic Lantern firmware or just heard about issues with it? If you have it, uninstall it. Otherwise reinstall the Canon firmware.

No, only heard about similar issues with it. No Magic Lantern for the 1DIV even if I wanted to. :)

I'm starting to suspect it may be battery related. I did a full recalibration of it yet when I put it back in (and the camera worked fine) the only anomaly I could notice was that the battery was asking for recalibration...
